I held the cup and it still was warm.
I held the cup and it was still warm.
We use still when a situation or action is continuing and has not changed or stopped.
The adverb still normally goes in mid position:
- Before the main verb: ‘I still remember his name.’
- After the verb be: ‘The cup was still warm.’
- After a modal or the first auxiliary verb: ‘I will still be here.’ ‘She is still waiting.’
In negative sentences, put still before the negative auxiliary: ‘She still hasn’t arrived.’
