× He arrived very late, but it didn’t mind, I just wanted to see him.
√ He arrived very late, but I didn’t mind; I just wanted to see him.

We use a person, NOT it, as the subject of mind.

We often use it as the subject of matter. Students often confuse the verbs mind and matter. Compare:

  • There is some noise, but I don’t mind
  • There is some noise, but it doesn’t matter
