Very can only be used before adjectives, not nouns. Before nouns we use many, much, a lot of, etc. ‘He is very rich’ ‘He has a lot of money’

√ My new car is much/a lot faster than my old one.
We use very before adjectives, but CANNOT use very before a comparative adjective.
Before a comparative adjective we use much or a lot: ‘The course this year is much more difficult than last year.’ ‘The situation now is a lot worse.’
