I haven’t got a girlfriend. I’m a single.
I haven’t got a girlfriend. I’m single.

Single is an adjective. After the verb be, use it without a/an: ‘I’m single.’ ‘Her brother is single.’

We can use a/an when a noun follows the adjective: ‘He is a single man.’
